Black‑eyed Peas Khichdi (9 months+)

Black-eyed Peas (Lobiya) rice for Babies (9 months+)


  • Rich in Iron, Calcium, Zinc, Folate, Vitamin A

  • 2 tbsps. of rice
  • 2 tbsps. of black-eyed peas (Lobiya/Rongi)
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Some finely chopped onion
  • 1 clove of minced garlic
  • ½ spoon of minced fresh ginger
  • Some finely chopped tomatoes
  • Haldi
  • Coriander Powder (Dhaniya Powder)
  • Salt (1 year+)


  • Soak 2 tbsps. of rice and 2 tbsps. of black-eyed peas (Lobiya/Rongi) in hot water for at least an hour.
  • Take a pressure cooker and add a spoon of ghee in it. Once the ghee melts, add some finely chopped onion and sauté it till it turns golden brown.
  • Now, add 1 clove of minced garlic and half a spoon of minced fresh ginger. Sauté it for a minute.
  • After this, add some finely chopped tomatoes and a pinch of Haldi and coriander (Dhaniya) powder. Salt can be added for 1 year+ babies.
  • Cover the masala and cook on a low flame till the ghee separates. Cook it for 2-3 minutes.
  • Now, add the soaked Lobiya and rice to the masala and 1.5 cups pf water to it. Pressure cook it for 4-5 whistles.
  • Once cooker releases pressure, open the lid and mash the khichdi with a masher.
  • Black-eyes Peas Khichdi is ready to serve.
