Oats Porridge (5 months+)

Under-5 minutes oats porridge recipe for babies (5 months+)

Ingredients:

  • A packet of quick cooking oats
  • Fruit puree (mango, banana, apple, pear, peach, apricot etc)
  • Chia seeds or flax seeds powder or nut powder or peanut/almond butter

Procedure:

  • Take any good brand of quick cooking oats (@quaker_india Quaker, Saffola etc)
  • Dry roast oats on a low flame in a pan till they release aroma. Keep stirring to avoid burns.
  • Switch off the flame and let them cool down.
  • Grind them to a fine powder – I have used the @wondercheflife Nutriblend (You can grind it to a coarse powder for 8 months+ babies)
  • After grinding, take a bowl, add 1/4 cup of the roasted oats powder and 3 times the water
  • Whisk it well to remove any lumps.
  • Pour the mixture in a pan and cook on low to medium flame for 2-3 minutes till porridge starts thickening. Ensure you keep whisking while it cooks to avoid any lumps
  • If it is too thick for your baby’s liking, add some water and further cook it for a minute.
  • Porridge is ready!! Add fruit puree (mango, banana, apple, pear, peach, apricot etc) for sweetness. Avoid sugar, dates, jaggery.
  • If baby is 6 months+, top it with chia seeds or flax seeds powder or nut powder or peanut/almond butter to add protein and good fats to the porridge, making it a wholesome meal for your baby.
  • You can store the dry roasted oats powder for 2-3 weeks easily in an airtight container
  • You can even use the same powder to make rotis for yourself and your baby or even pancakes.

Simple and easy 🙂
